The University of Regina is pleased to introduce the inaugural cohort of Chancellor's Scholars. Fourteen talented undergraduate students from across Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and British Columbia will be calling the University of Regina home starting this fall as they begin their academic journeys with full-ride scholarships worth $40,000 each, leadership programming, on-campus housing for their first year, and more, all thanks to the vision and generosity of the Chancellor's Community.
We are also proud to welcome two new graduate students as our Chancellor's Fellows. Each Fellowship includes a $25,000 award for their research potential, leadership experience, and community outreach. Learn more about our 2024-2025 recipients in the video and bios below.
2024-2025 Chancellor's Scholars
Nivla Jose Arevalo
Faculty of Science
As the 2024 Miller Comprehensive Valedictorian, Nivla Arevalo demonstrates both academic excellence and extracurricular involvement. For two years, he was a Miller Marauder football trainer. Nivla is also the Secretary/Treasurer of the Miller Student Council, the Secretary of the Students Against Drinking and Driving club, and participates in the Mental Health Matters club. He volunteers with Taste of the Philippines, BlackInSask, and the Maharlika Dance Group. Nivla is pursuing a Biochemistry degree through Campion College, a federated college of the University of Regina.
Madex Chriest
Faculty of Business Administration
A graduate of Campbell Collegiate, Madex hails from Regina. For Madex, the sports community – Regina Minor Football, Regina Flag Football, and Regina High School Athletics – has fostered not only a love of sport, but also a sense of community and responsibility. Madex continues to pay it forward as a volunteer for these programs and is looking forward to continuing his academic and charitable work through his studies within the U of R's Paul J. Hill School of Business.
Lucia Enrich Davis
Faculty of Arts
A recent graduate of the Nanaimo District Secondary School (NDSS) on Vancouver Island, Lucia is pursuing a degree in International Studies while playing for the U of R Cougars Women’s Soccer team. Lucia co-led the NDSS Environmental Club and was an active member of the British Columbia Youth Parliament where she held leadership roles in regional cabinets and coordinated service projects. Lucia strives to create a positive impact on the world and seeks to emulate her grandparents who ran international volunteer projects.
Lara Dixon
Faculty of Education
Lara is an Indigenous leader who is involved in her school and community, serving as the Co-President of the Goose Lake High School Student Council, captain of her school and club volleyball teams, and Valedictorian. She also participates on the golf, badminton, basketball, and track teams, and does Ukrainian dancing. She has been on the honour roll throughout high school and received several high-average awards. Lara is pursuing a Bachelor of Education in Secondary Education at the U of R.
Jumana Eldamaty
Faculty of Science
Jumana is a dedicated pianist, athlete, Photography Club member, and the Secretary/Photographer for the Regina Huda School’s Student Leadership Council. With a career in medicine in mind, Jumana volunteers as a Canadian Blood Services Ambassador delivering presentations to encourage other students to join this life-saving cause. Jumana is pursuing a degree in Psychology at the U of R.
Amber Fink
Faculty of Arts
Amber is involved in her school community as Vice-President of Campbell Collegiate’s Student Council. She is a member of Best Buddies, the Queer-Straight Alliance, Co-President of the Debate Club, and a section leader in vocal ensembles. She is passionate about supporting her community and founded Art for Change, an organization that provides youth with a platform to share their stories and fundraise for those experiencing homelessness in Regina. Amber is pursuing a degree in Psychology at the U of R.
Lanea Lafontaine
Faculty of Nursing
A graduate of FlexEd Online School, Lanea has organized fundraisers to send water purification systems to the Pacific Islands, led a JustServe club in her school, and created Smiles4Seniors, which provides cards to seniors in Regina. At 16 years old, Lanea has been recognized as a YWCA Young Woman of Distinction and a Saskatchewan Junior Citizen of the Year. She was the recipient of a Queen's Platinum Jubilee Award, as well as a Duke of Edinburgh International Award. Lanea begins her nursing studies at the U of R this fall.
Farrah Low
Faculty of Business Administration
Farrah is Davidson High School’s Student Council President and a member of the Sun West Leadership Team. She has helped to plan leadership conferences, a mental wellness conference, a career fair, and a student-led podcast. For her leadership, Farrah was selected to attend the Canadian Student Leadership Conference. She is also the captain of her volleyball team which won the 2023 Provincial 2A Championship. Farrah is pursuing a degree in Business Administration at the U of R.
Anneka McLaren
Faculty of Science
Anneka is a French Immersion student at École Thom Collegiate. She is Thom Collegiate’s Student Representative Council President and her class Valedictorian. She is also part of the school’s Anti-Racism group and participates in classical voice, dance, choir, wrestling, rugby, and flag football. Anneka is pursuing a degree in Biochemistry from the U of R in hopes of attending medical school and becoming a pediatric oncologist.
Dustin Moore
Faculty of Business Administration
Dustin is a student athlete and coach who has been involved in many activities at Rosetown Central High School and in his community. He is a member of the Student Representative Council and plays/coaches golf, volleyball, badminton, baseball, and hockey. He is a volunteer assistant coach for youth baseball at the local and provincial levels. Dustin grew up on his family farm near Rosetown, Saskatchewan, and looks forward to joining the Business Administration program at the U of R.
Kendal Oremba
Faculty of Science
Kendal is Vice-President of Balfour Collegiate's Student Leadership Council and a member of the ultimate frisbee team. Outside school, Kendal plays softball and figure skates with Skate Regina and New Heights Skating Academy, where she is also a program assistant for the younger skaters. She is an accomplished pianist and has completed the Royal Conservatory of Music and Conservatory Canada grade eight exams. Kendal is studying Pre-Pharmacy at the U of R.
Eshaal Rabiya
Faculty of Science
Eshaal is Regina Huda School's Student Leadership Representative and Valedictorian. She is involved with the school’s Photography Club, Technology Club, and basketball and volleyball teams. She is highly committed to health care, which she exemplifies as an ambassador at Canadian Blood Services and through her volunteerism with the Regina General Hospital’s Cardiac Care Unit. Eshaal is pursuing a Psychology degree at the U of R in support of her goal to attend medical school.
Isabelle Rogers
Faculty of Arts
Isabelle has a passion for sports – she has played ultimate frisbee, as well as volleyball for eight years, including four years with the Queen City Volleyball Club. Isabelle is the President of Balfour Collegiate’s Student Leadership Council, spearheading efforts to rebuild the school’s sense of community which was disrupted by COVID-19. She has earned an academic excellence medal every year in high school. Isabelle is enrolled in Pre-Law at the U of R and is pursuing a degree in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics.
Megan Stark
Faculty of Kinesiology and Health Studies
Megan is passionate about helping, serving, and making a difference in her community. She is a member of Regina Christian School's Student Leadership Council and was elected Co-President during her senior year. In addition, she is active in her school’s theatre community, including playing Maria in The Sound of Music. Megan is enrolled in the Faculty of Kinesiology and Health Studies' Human Kinetics program at the U of R, with the goal of becoming a physical therapist.
2024-2025 Chancellor's Fellows
Johnna Parenteau
Faculty of Science
Johnna Parenteau is a doctoral candidate in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics working under the supervision of Dr. Jane Breen and Dr. Shaun Fallat. After completing a Bachelor of Science High Honours in Mathematics and a Bachelor of Arts in Religious Studies at Campion College (a federated college of the University of Regina), she is completing her Master’s degree in Mathematics as a University of Regina Women in STEM and NSERC Canadian Graduate Scholarship recipient. Johnna’s research focus is in Combinatorial Matrix Theory where she studies the relationship between matrices, eigenvalue multiplicities, and graphs. Her PhD research will focus on the inverse eigenvalue problem for graphs and sign patterns.
Nastaran Radmehr
Faculty of Engineering
Nastaran Radmehr holds a Master's in Industrial Systems Engineering from the University of Regina and is currently pursuing her PhD in the same field under the supervision of Dr. Mehran Mehrandezh. She is a Data Scientist at Nutrien in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, and previously worked as a Computer Vision and Machine Learning Engineer at International Road Dynamics Inc. Her extensive publications in prestigious journals and conferences, coupled with significant awards, underscore her expertise and impact in the area of Industrial Systems, Artificial Intelligence, and Machine Learning.
