Zhanle (Gerald) Wang

Ph.D., P.Eng.

Dr. Wang is an Associate Professor in Electronic Systems Engineering, Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science at the University of Regina. He received the BEng degree in Industrial Automation from Hebei Polytechnic University (now North China University of Science and Technology), China, in 2001. He received both MASc and PhD in Electronic Systems Engineering from the University of Regina, Canada, in 2012 and 2015 respectively.

His research primarily focuses on: DER integration and operation; stability and power quality in low-inertia grids; optimization and predictive control for power system operation; protection-aware operation; electrification impacts (EVs, heat pumps); data-driven forecasting of DER behavior; battery modelling and second-life battery systems. He aims to develop intelligent and integrated energy systems to increase renewable energy integration, reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, and enhance grid stability and power quality.
