"Suzy Sparrow"
16mm film, tentatively 5 minutes, abandoned project
This is a film I proposed to the Saskatchewan Arts Board but was unsuccessful in getting funding for (twice, once in 1994 and again in 1995 as part of a series of adapted stories). From being on juries, i would suspect that it read as not having any edge and thus was less worthwhile. I have never had the time to finish it. It is the story of a very plain sparrow who collects ordinary spoons but is whisked away by a story to a far-off Oz-like land where everything is vibrant. Her plainness makes her a celebrity. The still above represents all the artwork i've drawn, although there is colour on some of it that I added later but was less happy about. I recorded the story with the late Kirsten McPhee (who did the voice work for "Angst", although the quality of that recording was not great and I have only a contract for using it for the purposes of seeking funding. Kirsten passed away a couple of years after the recording so if I ever return to it, I will likely have a professional audio engineer work on fixing that audio file to it best possible quality. Story.
