Mundane Acts
video series, completed 2004
The mundane acts series are made up of video footage shot during times of stress or trauma in the 1980s and 1990s. I was hospitalized numerous times between 1986 and 1990 for pneumonia and for multiple operations to reconstruct my left hand after a steel mill injury. Simple acts such as eating, shaving, or just occupying time on sleepless nights became huge challenges and therefore grew to dominant importance. These videos are primarily static, long takes and reflect my physical and emotional turmoil. They are also sketches for the film projects "Life Is Like Lint" which began shooting in 1992. They also suggest the stoic internal rage present in the more recent "Anger (Toxic 5)" film. "Eats his Lunch 1" was shot with a black and white security camera. "Nicole and the Accident" is a pixelvision video (shot with the PXL-2000 camera). "Lounge" was a collaborative video shot in my heyday at film school.
