ATLAS at the LHC: Mapping the Energy Frontier
Fri., Nov. 6, 2020 3:30 p.m. - Fri., Nov. 6, 2020 4:30 p.m.
Location: Zoom
Abstract: Precision physics at the highest-energy particle collider in the world is a complicated business, requiring exquisite calibration and understanding of the many subsystems of the cathedral-sized ATLAS detector: the combined efforts ofan enormous international team. I will discuss how the different parts of ATLAS were designed to work together to search for rare processes and make delicate measurements of the parameters of the Standard Model at and beyond the electroweak energy scale. Thetechnology choices in ATLAS, past, present and future, will be illustrated with a few of the key searches and measurements that shaped their design and illustrate the challenges they continue to present.
