Shine is one of the the most desired properties in the visual appearance of human hair. However while there have been number of studies to evaluate hair shine, the measurement of hair shine remains problematic. In this study we investigate the role of colour in hair appearance by analysing the visual images of hair tresses using a Gonio-image capture setup and image analysis tools. The analyses divide the chroma band into two segments, with a new Chroma-Specular reflection band identified. This novel preliminary work discusses the development of a chroma integrated image-based human hair gloss evaluation model.
