The Lost Art of Inertia
35mm and digital, 2018, 4 minutes
Utilizing sequences of frames from the my first roll of 35mm motion picture film shot with a WWII camera with Geremy Lague and Vishal Rajput as subjects, I paired a limited number of frames with a piano notes, manipulated to play both forward and backward. Title sequence is loops of clear leader typed upon with a manual typewriter. The film plays with time and history, leading one to question the nature of what is fresh and new versus what is old and decaying, themes I'm considering more and more as I find myself less able to find forward momentum.
Nominated for best short film and best editing at 2018 SIFA awards in Regina. See promotional trading cards.
