Filmmakers and Memory
SD Video, 38 seconds, colour, 2012
This is a fusion of two fictions, created by government, to convince the public that the leaders are men of the people. The images are archival footage of Adolph Hitler engaging with children. The audio is from a CBC television interview with Saskatchewan Party candidate Bill Hutchinson on his campaign trail. It was revealed, in the same news report, that Hutchinson had planted the random public he was conversations with; that his being a man of the people was a lie. Regardless, he made excuses and was elected anyway and became the minister of culture for the province. Under his "leadership", the film tax credit was cut, ending the viability of a film industry in this province. As filmmakers, the onus is on us to remember the lies that were told to us. Why then do they repeat? VIDEO
