Faust and Goethe's Colour Theory

Within the book Hollywood Flatlands, Esther Leslie discusses colour theory and cites Johann Wolfgang Goethe in which he writes "Green against red is a fundamental colour pairing ... red is the real ... green the fantastic ... together they evoke desire." I wanted to test how some of these colour actually respond to the eye. As Goethe is most notably remembered for "Faust", I used a drawing William did of the devil as subject matter.
