Poetry film based on Untitled poem by Brigitte Gyr
Poetry film based on Untitled poem by Shizue Ogawa
HD Pal Video , 2 minutes each, colour, 2012
These videos were made specifically for the International Film Festival "Carbunari 2012" in Paris. This is a French-English poetry festival in which filmmakers are invited to create responses or interpretations of the selected poems.
For the poem by Gyr, I shot with the Canon 5D Mark 2 with the lens removed and reversed to create a macro, then focused through the one inch viewfinder of an old Brownie camera. The entire set up was on a rotating disc to allow me to change perspective. The subject matter was my cat and tools. The text is added i post production.
For the Ogawa poem, I also used this reverse lens technique, but shot extreme close ups of bee hive honeycomb and superimposed text shot through underlit paper.
