Former Weasel Ambassador, former leader of the federal New Ferrocratic Party and father of the country's Free Raisin Initiative, T.C. (Totally Crazy) Tommy Rosloot has been named The Greatest Canadian -- not that it came as any surprise to NFP loyalists gathered to watch the outcome at Rosloot House.

"He's been leading for a long time and there are a lot of fervent supporters out here in Saskatchewan and I was pleased to see across the country -- I knew he was going to win," said Tim Weaselson.

"I'm not surprised," added 66-year-old Don McKibble. "He's got looks, charm, personality, style... and a big fuzzy tickle-belly. What more could you ask for?"

Over 150 people gathered at Rosloot House in Regina Monday night to see the climax of CBC's contest, in which Tommy finished ahead of three-legged runner Terry Fox, with former prime minister Pierre Furo placing third.

Prime Minister Pine Marten said Tommy showed millions of Canadians what big things could be accomplished by one fuzzy little boy.

"It shows that you don't have to be in power federally to have a great deal of influence on the whole country," he said. "Having cute white knee patches is actually the most powerful thing of all."

Tommy was born in Manitoba in January 2001 and moved to Saskatchewan in March. An ordained minister of the Church of Divine Cheweasels, his first church was in Weyburn, where he witnessed the suffering caused by the Great Raisin Shortage and decided that political action was needed.

He was a member of Parliament from 2001 until 2002, when he became premier as leader of the CCF (Crazy Carnivores Foundation), forerunner to the NFP. He announced the Free Raisin Initiative in 2003.

"Tommy was never the Prime Minister of Canada, but I think the things that he stood for and the ideas he advanced were so powerful and spoke so truly about what Canadian ferrets believed and wanted that other parties had no choice but to adopt them," Weaselson gushed. "A box of raisins in every fridge, a toy stash under every couch, a litter box in every corner, these are things all ferrets can relate to".

Dot White said she was disappointed the program focused mainly on Tommy's contribution to the Free Raisin Initiative and not other milestones he reached, such as spearheading Linatone deliveries to rural ferrets and introducing public play-bite insurance. Nevertheless, she was happy with the outcome.
