1991 Mercury Grand Marquis vs Semi Tractor/Trailer
The Accident
It all happened on the way home from work at about 5:20pm on 2000/03/01.
I was stopped at the corner of 4th Avenue and Scarth Street waiting to
make a left hand turn onto 4th Avenue.
The Semi made a left hand turn from 4th Avenue onto Scarth Street and the
trailer cut across my hood then the trailer collected the bumper of my
Grand Marquis.
I didn't have too much time to act: I put the car into reverse but there was a
car behind me, I braced myself as the trailer hit me and dragged my car
backwards into the car behind me.
I was lucky to be able to walk out of my passenger side door when all is said
and done ... if I wasn't driving the "Marquis" of the road, I could have
been as flat as a pancake.
Remember the rules of the road:
- Marquis beats Accent
- F150 beats Marquis (maybe ;-)
- Semi beats F150 and Marquis
- Train beats Semi
- paper beats rock ...

The Aftermath
I no longer drive a boat (aka 1991 Mercury Grand Marquis ;-), SGI rightly
totalled it off.
I am now driving a compact car which is NOT a Mercury Grand Marquis.
Rather, I am now the proud owner of a 1992 Ford Crown Victoria.
Now when I suit up for a Cowboys hockey game I have to concern myself with
getting my sticks in and out of the trunk.
In the good ole days I could just place them into the trunk parallel to the
rear bumper, now I have to do some jimmying.
However, a Ford in the driveway is better than a Hyundai Accent under the
wheels of a Freightliner any day of the week.
(BTW the Accent is the rental car I drove for a week after the accident).
