Midterm 2

Time

Tuesday March 13, 7:15-8:15 PM.

Please arrive at least 10 minutes early.

Rooms

Sections CD1, CD2, CD3, and CD4 are in 314 Altgeld (usual lecture room).

Sections CD5, CD6, CD7, and CD8 are in 114 David Kinley Hall.

Material covered

Midterm 2 will include material covered in class through Friday, March 9.

The focus will be on material covered after midterm 1: sections 14.6 - 14.8, 13.1 - 13.3, 16.1 - 16.3, 15.1, and 15.2.

The best guide for what will be on the test is the book and the problems in the book. However, there may be special emphasis on the problems that were actually assigned, including on worksheets, WebAssign, and additional homework assignments. For the latter, solutions have been posted here.

We have also emphasized answering questions from looking at pictures and graphs. Conversely, drawing graphs may help you answer problems. However, you will not be graded on your artistic ability per se.

You are responsible for the material in calculus I and II, though there will be no special effort to focus on that material.

Rules

You may not have any electronics, papers, or books on your person, though you can have them in closed bags out of easy reach. If you do bring them, you will need to leave them at the front of the room during the exam.

You must bring your student ID and will be asked to show it when you return your exam.

The conflict exam will take place on Wednesday March 14, 7:30-8:30 AM, room 100 Gregory Hall.

Regrades

If you took the main exam, please look at the solutions and grading key.
If you took the conflict exam, please look at the solutions.

For each question, one TA has been given authority to regrade the problem. You should either go to their office hours or e-mail them to set up an appointment. Alternately, if you and your TA agree, you may give it to your TA to give to them. If they agree that the grading is incorrect, they will give it directly to your TA. Your TA will then compare with the photocopy of your original exam, if possible, and then change your score.

The deadline for requesting a regrade is Thursday, March 29 for all problems except the mass of the wire. For that problem, the deadline is Friday March 30 at 5:00 PM.
We have photocopied selected exams before returning them. If your exam has been changed, it will be considered cheating.

Advisory curve

Here are cutoffs for letter grades, where a score greater than or equal to the cutoff gets the corresponding letter. For simplicity, this advisory curve ignores pluses and minuses. They correspond respectively to the top part and bottom part of each range.

Because exam scores were very high, the standard cutoffs have been used.
