Non-Academic Pension Plan Structure, Benefits and Funding
(spouses welcome)
This Session will speak to the purpose of the initiative to assess members' needs.
It will address:
* an overview of the concept of saving for retirement, the vehicles and sources available and where the Non-Academic Pension Plan fits in;
* basics on how the Plan works and its governance will also be addressed;
* an overview of the benefits the Plan provides;
* how the Plan's benefits are financed;
* the significance of investment returns to the success of the Plan's funding;
* the degree to which cost of benefits can vary;
* the challenges involved in balancing the often competing funding objectives of benefit security and contribution rate stability;
* strategies to manage challenges;
* the role of the regulator and legislative framework to protect accrued benefits, and;
* corrective measures that can be taken when funding and cost becomes misaligned.
