Part 1: Radiation Safety: Consumable Source Online (to be completed before attending workshop)
Part 2: Radiation Safety: Consumable Source Workshop
Course Objective:
This classroom training component complements the online Radiation Safety training material. Most of the class will be located in a commissioned radiation laboratory; be prepared by bringing a lab coat, safety goggles, and closed-toe shoes.
Including:
Wipe testing, scintillation counter use, and required record keeping
Shielding and types of radiation
Survey meters and personal dosimeter use
Radioactive material waste procedures
Demonstration of radioactive material spill clean-up
Incident reporting and security
Who should attend: All employees (faculty and staff), visitors, and undergraduate and graduate students who manage or work with consumable radioactive materials in a laboratory at the U of R.
Complimentary courses available: Depending on the laboratory you will be working in, you may also need to enroll in Biosafety or Chemical and Laboratory Safety Training courses.
