William had a terrible cough for a couple of days. Each cough sounded like it would the last one so that, when hearing them late at night, you would continuously think that peace had come until, without warning, another cough would come. This is unlike random noise, this is heart-breaking suffering of your child, so each cough comes with it a vibrant and clear awareness of the face of the one suffering.
