Reflexions

Silent. About 1 minute, 16mm colour reversal, 1984.

This was a clamation film I made in a first year animation course in 1984 at the University of Regina with Elaine Pain instructing. The main character was orange clay. At the beginning he is in a strange world with a background constructed from glass. I backlit the glass and moved paint around on it every frame. Lacking background in paint, it dried very quickly and was a problem to animate. The character discovers that he can move through the floor but after he does, he ends up in a red-lit hell. Instead of filtering the camera, for some reason I decided to gel the lights with a double or triple layer of red. In the hell, a devil appears to him as an underlit sand animation. The character runs and eventually finds a door that leads him to where he started.
