reconstruction of a shallow seas during the Ordovician

The project will be require each student to write a research paper - part of which will be go to a group web page that reconstructs the paleo-environment of the outcrop.

Each student will be required to write a chapter to a class project that will center around the reconstruction of Mississippian shallow marine environment. You can choose to work on a identification of a specific group, lithology, literature review, or paleo-reconstruction of the environment.

Everyone will contribute to the paper's conclusions that will be presented as a web page.

You are encouraged to use any primary literature sources, however, limit your use of general encyclopaedias, internet, and popular works.

Each paper should include a reconstruction of the paleo-environment. An excellent reference for paleo-environment reconstruction is W. S. McKerrow's Ecology of Fossils. You can also come by and see if I have some information you may use.

Some good places to start looking for primary literature sources are:

• Biological Abstracts, GEOBASE, and GEOREF available online at the UofR library's Electronic Resources :
  other database may also be helpful such as Science Citation Index, Zoological Record (presently not available at the UofR, but may be found at the UofS) LINK, and IDEAL

The paper should be 7 to 10 pages in length - double spaced - excluding any diagrams, figure, pictures, and tables.

2^st October - sign up for area to be studied

22^th November - individual papers due - 5 points will be taken off for each day after this date

29^th November - Group project/web page must be completed.
