BIOGRAPHY

Hussameldin Ibrahim is an Assistant Professor of Process Systems Engineering at the University of Regina. His research focus is on developing chemical and engineering solutions for the catalytic conversion of biomass-derived feedstocks to synthetic gas and biofuels. Hussameldin is currently working with governmental and industrial partners to help make the economica conversion of crude glycerol to value-added bio-based products a reality. This project will help improve the economics of bio-diesel production while reducing greenhouse gas emissions. He is one of the lead researchers in the International Test Centre for CO2 Capture and a pioneering developer of one of the world's most effective processes for converting hydrocarbon fuels and bio-based fuels to renewable hydrogen. Hussameldin is the co-lead researcher on the University of Regina's Feed-Flexible and Process-Flexible (FFPF) Hydrogen Production Pilot Plant Project. He plays a key role in managing the process design, construction and operation of the Pilot Plant. The Plant is designed to test the possibility of using different types of hydrogen sources as feed to the plant without having to change catalysts or otherwise disrupt plant operations. His research interests also include COx-free hydrogen production, synthetic fuels from biomass processes, catalytic methods for carbon capture processes, and unconventional enhanced oil production processes. He has published many peer-reviewed research papers in high-impact scientific journals and presented his work in many national and international conferences. Hussameldin is a recipient of the 2012 Award of Innovation for Novel Hydrogen Production Technology. He was also, a recipient of the Governor General's Academic Gold Medal awarded in recognition of his outstanding performance as a Ph.D. candidate. He is very widely travelled and has lived, worked and studied in a number of countries spanning North America, Asia and Africa. Hussameldin has professional affiliations to the Association of Professional Engineering and Geoscientists of Saskatchewan (APEGS) and the Project Management Institute (PMI).
