Welcome to the Geotechnical Engineering Group at the University of Regina. The study of slurries, soils, and rocks is central to economic prosperity, environmental stewardship, and social viability of everything that is constructed in, on, or with earthen materials. We focus on the application of geotechnical engineering fundamentals (conventional and unsaturated soil mechanics) in conjunction with colloid-liquid-ion interactions and geological evolution of geomaterials to develop sustainable solutions for a variety of engineering problems. Our main areas of interest are the following:

Mine Waste Management Design of tailings and waste rock containment facilities as well as superior waste streams such as paste and thickened tailings, tailings and waste rock co-mixes, and clay-sand mixes for cover systems.
Civil Infrastructure Systems Soil-structure-atmosphere interaction for pipelines (for oil, gas, water supply, sewage collection), land transportation (roads, highways, railways, bridges) as well as commercial, industrial, and civic facilities.
