Information
I
have been teaching at the University of Regina for 11 years, in
undergraduate Mathematics Education and in graduate Educational
Technology classes. About 6 years ago I met some wonderful teachers
who embarked with me and some colleagues on an exciting journey
to learn about and with technology. We have been examining ways
in which it makes sense to integrate technology into the curriculum.
At times I feel like I am still at the very beginning of this journey--it
seems that the more I learn about this area, there is still so very
much more to learn.
Before
I came here to teach I was a graduate student at the University
of Calgary, where I completed both my Masters and Ph D degrees in
Mathematics Education. I was given the opportunity to teach undergraduate
classes in Mathematics Education while I was a graduate student
and this really inspired me to want to continue teaching at the
university level. Although I graduated from the U of C with my Ph
D, I completed most of my coursework at the University of Alberta,
where I had a large energetic community of learners--all interested
in Mathematics Education. It was indeed a vibrant community of learners;
unfortunately I sort of 'parachuted' in one day a week so I was
not able to fully participate in this community. I envied their
hallway chattering and exciting coffee meetings.
Before
my three years of graduate studies in Calgary I was a classroom
teacher in the North West Territories, where I taught all grades
from 1-6, in Yellowknife and in Iqaluit. Prior to that I taught
in Saskatchewan, England and Scotland, my country of origin.
On
a more personal level, I have always enjoyed traveling, hiking,
camping, dancing, listening to music, and reading.
The
following information has been pulled from my CV. I have included
a sampling of articles written, papers presented, and research projects
worked on.
