The Regina Mandolin Orchestra was officially organized in 1988 with 10 members and one mandolin student.  It emerged as a unique performing ensemble that is today one of the largest folk orchestras in Canada.  The members of the Orchestra have come from many musical backgrounds and experiences.  Several musicians have performed together in other groups and have traveled extensively to perform in concerts,  festivals and stage presentations.

Although the musical sound of the Regina Mandolin Orchestra is based on the mandolin, the Orchestra is both supplemented and complemented by accordion, flute, guitar, violin and percussion.  Other  ethnic musical instruments are often used.

This allows performance of a wide variety of musical styles; from world-wide folk music to classical  works, Christmas music, and contemporary popular tunes.

The Orchestra has become known for its spirited performances of music from many lands, and of many moods.  It  charms audiences in Regina and Southern Saskatchewan with its blend of Celtic, World-wide and North-American folk  melodies, new arrangements  of old favorites and popular show tunes, as well as new  compositions by the Music Director written especially for the Orchestra.
