Over 180 dedicated and hard-working employees call Facilities Management home. With more than 2.8 million square feet of space to operate and maintain on our Main and College Avenue campuses, there’s no shortage of things to do. Our operations span the entire campus and have an impact on all those who live, study, work, and play at the University of Regina.  The work we do ranges from strategic campus master planning to daily operations — and everything in between.

About Us

The Department of Physical Plant, as it was known for decades, was renamed Facilities Management in 2008 to better reflect the growing and diverse array of services provided and to give the department a more contemporary feel.

Since 1995, the campus has undergone remarkable growth. Beginning with the construction of the Riddell Centre (1995) and followed by projects such as the Wakpa & Paskwāw Towers (2004), the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport (2007), the Research & Innovation Centre (2012), and most recently, Kīšik Towers (2015).

While times have certainly changed, one thing remains true. From the origins of the institution to the present day, Facilities Management professionals have always played a vital role and taken great pride in supporting the academic mission of the institution.

Welcome to the University of Regina!

Nestled in Wascana Park, our campus serves more than 17,000 students in 2.8 million square feet of facilities.

Here in Facilities Management, we have more than 180 employees who take tremendous pride in the campus and deliver exceptional, proactive service. We clean, repair, plan, design, build, and support our facilities to create a safe, sustainable, inviting campus for our students, faculty, staff, and community.

Planning, Design and Construction Department

The Planning, Design and Construction Department has responsibilities ranging from strategic campus master planning to design and management of renovation and construction projects across campus. In collaboration with stakeholders campus-wide, old buildings are brought back to life and new facilities are designed and built to world-class standards.

A dedicated and professional team of Campus Planners, Architectural Designers, Project Managers, and Drafting Staff call “PDC” home. No matter what the task, the number one priority for the entire PDC team is to create environments that are safe, inviting, and functional for students, faculty, staff, and community alike.

Maintenance and Utilities Department

Like the name implies, the Maintenance and Utilities Department is responsible for the repair and maintenance of more than $1 billion of campus facilities and infrastructure. Comprised of the Central Heating Plant, Custodial Services, Labour Crew, and the Mechanical, Structural, and Electrical Services Groups, the Maintenance and Utilities Department has the skilled people and resources available to handle everything from routineshotting trouble to campus-wide maintenance and utilities emergencies—and everything in between.

A dedicated and professional team of Shift Engineers, Boiler Operators, Custodians, Service Mechanics, Carpenters, Electricians, Painters, Locksmiths, and Maintenance Staff call the department home. With more than 40 Journey-Level tradespeople and apprentices in the department we’ve got some of the most skilled and experienced people in the province working here in Facilities Management.

Organizational Innovation

The Organizational Innovation Department has responsibilities ranging from the overall financial management of the Facilities Management budget, to front-line operations campus-wide, with a focus on supporting continuous improvement. Comprised of the General Office, Work Control Centre, and Mail Room, the Department is a centralized hub of support and improvement activity for Facilities Management.

The department is made up of a unique team of professionals, dedicated to the diverse tasks they perform. While the duties vary, all those that call the department home have one very important thing in common: They all take great pride in the important high-quality support services they provide.
