Department of Politics and International Studies

The Department of Politics and International Studies offer degrees in both Political Science and International Studies. 

Whichever program students are enrolled in, our mission remains to encourage them to think broadly, critically, and systematically about the core features of their democratic and global citizenship. We strive to give our students the tools they will need to understand their world as they make their way in the 21st century.

The faculty are engaged and productive scholars who are committed to excellence in teaching and making the Department of Politics and International Studies at the University of Regina a diverse, accomplished, and vibrant place in which students can learn.

Travel Fund for PAIS Students

Students majoring in Political Science, International Studies, or PPE are eligible to apply for a $2,000 award to support travel for study, research, conferences, and more. The funds are awarded three times per year, with application deadlines in early October, February, and June. PAIS Faculty Member Wins Teaching Award

The Centre for Teaching and Learning at the University of Regina recognized Dr. Emily Grafton for her outstanding contributions to education. Dr. Grafton is an innovative and inspirational teacher, and a leader in campus-wide decolonial education. Congratulations, Dr. Grafton, from all of your students and colleagues in the Department of Politics and International Studies!

Rural Healthcare Report Published

This report presents the results of a research project that examined the current state of healthcare in rural Saskatchewan. The findings in the report by PAIS Faculty member Dr. Tom McIntosh and colleagues suggest that there are critical issues that cannot be left unaddressed.

PAIS Faculty Member Wins Writing Prize

Dr. Brian McQuinn receievd a prize from the Faculty of Arts for the year's best piece of scholarly writing for a non-specialist audience. The report by Dr. McQuinn and colleagues analyzed the Taliban's use of social media in it's campaign to take power in Afghanistan in 2021. Federalism Book Published

This timely Advanced Introduction explores federalism as a subject of intellectual inquiry, discussion and debate. Alain-G. Gagnon and PAIS faculty member Dr. Arjun Tremblay examine the role federalism can play in achieving fairness, justice and equality, as well as the impact it can have on the survival of political systems.
