Language and Culture

Learn English and Experience Western Canada

In the Language and Culture program, students study English communication and experience western Canadian culture.

Classes will focus on practicing real-world English and studying topics and themes related to Canadian culture and life in Canada.

The in-person programs, you will learn by doing a variety of on-campus and off-campus activities, such as:

  • on-campus sports, conversation groups and games, and
  • off-campus local tours and amusement facilities visits.

Virtually, you can still experience local destinations with virtual tours and more!

Learning English in the Language and Culture Program is a transformative experience. Build your confidence, independence and adaptability while learning a new language.

Learning English has never been more fun!

Study the English Language and Canadian culture under a beautiful blanket of winter snow, or under the hot prairie sun of a Canadian summer. Enjoy speaking English with classmates and local people while taking part in classes and activities almost every day. Explore all the city has to offer with many local businesses and historical sites.

Policies

Program Fees In-Person Programs
  • Applicants must pay a non-refundable $275 CAD fee at the time of enrolment before being admitted to the program and receiving a Letter of Acceptance. The remaining portion of the program fee must be paid by the first day of the program.
  • The total fee may also be paid at the time of enrolment.
Program Fees Virtual Programs
  • Applicants must pay a non-refundable $150 CAD fee at the time of enrolment before being admitted to the program and receiving a Letter of Acceptance. The remaining portion of the program fee must be paid by the first day of the program.
  • The total fee may also be paid at the time of enrolment.
Cancellation, Withdrawal and Transfers for In-Person Programs

Before the first day of the program

If an applicant withdraws from or cancels participation in an in-person program prior to the first day of the program, ESL will retain the non-refundable $275 CAD fee.

After the program has started

If an applicant withdraws anytime after the program has started or departs early, ESL will retain the full program fees.

One-time transfer

Prior to the start of the program, an applicant may choose to transfer the $275 CAD non-refundable fee to any other short-term ESL program. The enrolment fee cannot be transferred more than one time and the request must be submitted in writing prior to the start of the program initially enrolled in.

Group payment exception

If the applicant's fee is part of a group payment, payment of the non-refundable $275 CAD fee will not be required prior to a Letter of Acceptance being issued. Verification the applicant is part of a paying group or cohort is required before a Letter of Acceptance is issued.

Travel Arrangements
  • The University is not responsible for the travel arrangements of any applicant.
  • Applicants must make their own travel arrangements unless otherwise arranged by their home institution, such as when group bookings are made.
  • Travel arrangements include but are not limited to:
    • flight bookings and
    • securing required travel documents, including the requirement of an ETA, Visitor VISA or other form of travel documentation.
  • Refer to the Government of Canada website to determine applicant entry requirements.
