Born in Saskatchewan, Montreal-based artist / composer / writer Steve Heimbecker has presented his audio art, immersive installations, and multi channel sound concerts, at art events in Canada and internationally for 2 decades. Notable presentations include: Western Front, Vancouver, Diapason Gallery, New York City; Latvian Museum of Art - RIXC, Riga, Latvia; Prix Ars Electronica, Linz, Austria; Kiasma Museum of Modern Art, Helsinki, Finland; Kunstradio, Vienna, Austria; Subtle Technologies, Toronto; Send + Receive, Winnipeg; and the Tuning of the World, Banff / Calgary. Heimbecker has published articles, CDs, and DVDs including his comprehensive book and DVD 5.1 boxset Songs of Place (2005), co-published by OBORO, Montreal. He is currently working on a 64 channel sound diffusion system, controlled by wind patterns, called the “Turbulence Sound Matrix”.
