| Darren Copeland |
Darren Copeland is a sound artist whose work for radio, installations and performance have received international attention, including two solo releases on the empreintes DIGITALes label.
Darren Copeland is the Artistic Director for New Adventures in Sound Art. In this capacity he has been a progressive leader in the area of performance spatialization by integrating it in NAISA's three annual festivals in both an automated 8-channel format and a live 12-channel format. This focus on spatialization has influenced Copeland's radio art and composition activity, leading to the production of the first radio drama by CBC to be produced in surround sound (A Dream Play, 2000) and for his recent radio art productions Ich will kein inmich mehr sein (ZKM, 2005) and Let Me Out (Kunstradio, 2006) that have also been broadcast and performed in multi-channel formats. He has also lectured and taught workshops on spatialization across Canada and western Europe.
Copeland has created sound installations for site-specific locations (Kitchener City Hall for Open Ears, Metro Toronto Convention Centre for Interactive05), soundscape compositions (Night Camera, Reaching for Tomorrow, Life Unseen, etc), and has written articles on sound art production, soundscape perception and listening sensitivity.
