Eateries Near the University

There is a small plaza opposite the University campus (go out any door from College West or Riddell Centre and head towards the traffic lights) with Stone’s Throw (good coffee shop); plus Pita Pit, McDonalds, Subway, and Trifon’s Pizza (quite good pizza). There’s also a 24-hour Mac’s convenience store.

City of Regina Eateries

Albert St. South - is the main drag near the University (5 min. to drive, 20 min to walk) and has everything you need in terms of malls, drug stores, supermarkets, etc. Good restaurants in this area: Grekos (Greek); The Cottage (Greek plus steak etc.); Poverinos and Primo Pasta (Italian).

There is good bus service directly outside the Riddell Centre, both to Albert St. and downtown. Pauline will lend you her stick-shift car if you need to transport stuff.

Other restaurants:

Bushwakker Brew Pub ($) (2206 Dewdney Avenue) rated one of the top five in Canada – really good beer brewed on-site, and good food; nice atmosphere. Not the place to go if you’re dieting….
Cathedral Free House ($) (2062 Albert Street) also has good food, with a more extensive menu than Bushwakker. Some of the same beers (same owners) but less selection.
La Bodega ($$) ($5-$20 Tapas) 2228 Albert Street, 546-3660 – Spanish tapas; lighter food; nice atmosphere.

More upscale

Zest ($$$) ($20 - $30) 2903 Powerhouse Drive, 522-5250- This is within walking distance (aprox. 20-25 minutes). Located in the Science Center in Wascana Park.

Exercise facilities

The University has a sports complex, with all the usual amenities including a swimming pool. You can get a day pass for the pool for $1.10.

Wascana Park is large and runs through the centre of the city. You can access it by walking north on Wascana Parkway (turn left from the University; this street becomes Broad St. and goes directly to downtown). When you reach the bridge, the main park is on your left. It takes about an hour to walk around it. There are also other walking/running trails around the university. The park is great for walking or running, but Regina is very buggy this year, use spray to avoid those West Nile mosquitoes.

Medical care
Emergency There are 2 hospitals in Regina, the General and the Pasqua. Both have emergency rooms but the Pasqua tends to have shorter waiting times.
General There is a good walk-in clinic near the University, on Parliament and Albert (in the strip mall). You shouldn’t have to wait more than 20-30 mins. to see a doctor and it’s open 8-8.
There is also a medical office in the University, very near the residence; turn left out of the residence into the hallway, go left again at the double doors, and follow the signs.
